Smith Lecture presented to record crowd

A picture of Dr. Joseph Incandela presenting at the Smith Lecture.

Dr. Joseph Incandela presented the 52nd Annual Smith Lecture to a crowd of more than 650  persons in Independence 100 last night.  Attendees that have attended this lecture for more than 30 years remarked that it was the largest crowd they had witnessed over that time period.

Dr. Candela was the spokesperson for the CMS project at CERN and the one who made the announcement on July 4, 2012 of the discovery of the Higgs-boson.  Groups of students travelled from as far away as Cleveland to attend the lecture.  This lecture aimed at a general audience was attended by numerous high school groups and others interested in science from the central Ohio community as well as countless OSU students, faculty and staff.  Dr. Incandela graciously answered numerous questions and talked with visiting students and guests following the talk.

This was the first Smith Lecture to be held during Autumn semester.  Watch for announcement of the next Smith Lecture next fall.
