Bridge
Goal 1: Transparency
Transparency: Clarity and transparency on the transition from the Bridge to Ph.D. program.
Vision of where we want to be in 5 years: We will have clear expectations for the re-application process to OSU or support for students to apply to other programs if they choose.
- Action 1: Bridge Committee review current re-application process for Bridge Students to provide clarity on the process (Should call this "PhD program application process")
- Action 2: Support Bridge students who apply elsewhere. (What does this look like?)
- Action 3: Create a process document for: 1) continuing in the PhD program; 2) leaving with a MS, 3) applying for other programs
- Action 4: Options if committee denies reapplication (PhD application)-include in process document as well
- Action 5: Assign promised mentors before new students arrive
- Action 6: Monitor mentoring
- Action 7: Solicit student input for mentoring needs
- Action 8: Develop Expectations for this student-faculty relationship
- Action 9: Resources for Senior Bridge Students to mentor and engage with new students
Goal 2: Community
Community: Build community within the Bridge program.
Vision of where we want to be in 5 years: We will have a regular pattern of events and processes that help build a support community of Bridge Scholars.
- Action 1: Department provide funds for Bridge Students (all years & those in PhD program) for events to build community. Could possibly include student from other Bridge programs at OSU.
- Action 2: Identify Student Mentors (more senior Bridge students) through "Speed Dating" like event at the start of Fall Semester.
- Action 3: Monthly meeting with Bridge students and mentors – some organized around a topic
