Centers & Facilities
Faculty are leaders and active participants in centers based in the Department:
- the Center for Cosmology and AstroParticle Physics (CCAPP)
- and the center for the Exploration of Novel Complex Materials (ENCOMM)
- whose support led to an NSF MRSEC, the Center for Emergent Materials (CEM)
Faculty work in state-of-the-art facilities in the Physics Research Building, at U.S. research centers, at international laboratories in Europe and Asia, at facilities in South America and in Antarctica.
The scholarly activities of the faculty truly have a global reach, which has directly led to an increase in the strength and diversity of the graduate students.
The Physics Research Building is a unique, attractive facility for research and interactions amongst faculty, students, and staff.
Our facilities include:
- NanoSystems Laboratory (NSL), an OSU user facility that seeks to ensure access by scientists to cutting edge research equipment
- The Liquid Helium Facility
- The Liquid Nitrogen Facility
- The Machine Shop, which provides a vital service to the Department’s research program
- The top-caliber Ohio Supercomputing Center
- And, the state-of-the-art Scarlet Laser Facility
