Ohio State is in the process of revising websites and program materials to accurately reflect compliance with the law. While this work occurs, language referencing protected class status or other activities prohibited by Ohio Senate Bill 1 may still appear in some places. Physics Gingerbread Competition - January 30, 2014

A gingerbread house demonstration from the Physics Gingerbread Competition.

The Center for Emergent Materials has expanded their invitation to showcase creativity to the entire physics department.  The Gingerbread Physics Competition is scheduled for January 30, 2014 from 5:30-7:30 pm in the PRB Atrium.

This isn't your Grandma's Gingerbread House!!

Collaborative groups will go head-to-head to build the winning representation of their research with gingerbread, cookies, and candy.  Who knows their equipment best? Which group will come up with the best candy parts? Will we ever get along again?

...May the planning begin!

If your group would like to participate, please RSVP to hollen.8@osu.edu

Details:

  • Families and significant others are welcome.
  • Teams should bring all the supplies they will need for their build.  (A bartering system will likely emerge...)
  • BYO snacks and drinks
  • Final products will be displayed at the Physics Winter Party.  Voting by party-goers will determine the winning team.

Rules:

  1. All ingredients/supplies must be edible (ask: is someone in your group is willing to prove that an ingredient is edible?)
  2. All building and assembly must occur during the event
  3. The final product must have something to do with your group's research.  For example: an experimental group might represent a piece of laboratory equipment.  Theoretical groups have it harder: their products might reflect a technique or concept used by the group. A brief (1 paragraph) explanation should be written to display with your product.
