OSU Newark Celebrates 50th Anniversary of Moon Landing

Launching rockets on the OSU Newark campus

Physics and astronomy professor Michael Stamatikos helped the community around OSU Newark celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Apollo 11 lunar landing.

Professor Stamatikos worked with partners such as Owens Corning, Buckeye Space Launch Initiative, Boeing, and PAR Excellence Academy to teach kids about science and engineering. Rocket Day took place on July 11th and included educational activities, science trivia, and, of course, rocket launching.

On July 16th, eighteen rockets, ranging from 10 inches tall to over 5 feet, were launched from the OSU Newark campus in participation of the world record breaking Global Rocket Launch event in partnership with US Space and Rocket Center in Huntsville, AL.

Additionally, Professor Stamatikos wrote an article as a guest columnist regarding the legacy of the Apollo 11 lunar landing for the Newark Advocate.
