Events, Milestones & Community Engagement
Partnering with DQS-CP
DQS-CP works with external partners in three categories:
Quantum Sensing Startups
For companies working on quantum sensing hardware, software, or applications, DQS-CP offers deep technical expertise, multi-modal characterization capability, and a research environment where ideas can be pressure-tested against real physics constraints before customer conversations start.
We take on a small number of technical collaborations where the fit is clear.
Equipment and Instrumentation Partners
Our research pushes hardware in directions typical commercial use cases don't reach, across six categories:
- Quantum measurement platforms, NV-diamond microscopy, scanning probe, EPR and SQUID magnetometry
- Cryogenics, vacuum, and magnet systems, dilution refrigerators, UHV chambers and in-vacuum sample transfer, vector magnets
- Microwave and RF control, phase-coherent multi-channel drive, arbitrary waveform generation, low-noise amplification
- Photonics and single-molecule optics, pulsed and narrow-linewidth lasers, single-photon detection, TIRF, optical and magnetic tweezers, microfluidic sample handling
- Growth, fabrication, and structural characterization, diamond and thin-film CVD, MBE, focused-ion-beam and lithographic patterning, air-free synthesis, electron microscopy
- Radiation and nuclear instrumentation, neutron beamlines and imaging, wide-bandgap detectors, high-dose irradiation testing
Engaging early gives a vendor a feedback loop on performance limits and emerging capability needs, ahead of broader market demand.
End-User Organizations
For companies and institutions looking at quantum sensing for a specific application, pharmaceutical R&D, diagnostics, materials qualification, advanced manufacturing monitoring, the opportunity is to engage now.
DQS-CP technology currently sits at TRL 2–5 depending on modality, with a multi-year path to deployment readiness.
Early engagement isn't about procurement. It's a chance to influence which measurement problems the program takes on, and to build the relationship before the field fills up.
Industry Advisory Board
DQS-CP is forming an Industry Advisory Board: startup, equipment, and end-user partners who meet periodically to advise on research priorities and receive early results briefings.
This is the entry point for organizations wanting a standing relationship with the program.
Events and Milestones
July 2025
- Phase 1 Town Hall, Boston, community roadmap workshop with 61 participants from academia, industry, and government. Identified the program's near-term sensing targets.
Fall 2025
- NSF Phase 2 Award, DQS-CP advances to NQVL Phase 2 Design. $4M cooperative agreement, two-year period.
2026
- Phase 2 consortium established, six research institutions and three program partners operational, with distributed reporting and milestone tracking in place.
August 2026
- Phase 2 all-hands, full consortium convened; Phase 3 planning underway.
September 13–15, 2026

Spring 2027
- NSF Preliminary Design Review, first formal design gate for the Phase 3 testbed.
Target: 2027
Workforce Development
Quantum sensing will need people who can operate the instruments, not only people who can build them.
With QuSTEAM and QuantCAD, DQS-CP is developing interdisciplinary curriculum modules, hands-on summer school experiences, and practicum placements across the consortium.
The programming is aimed at chemistry, biology, and materials science students as much as physics and engineering trainees, since they are the ones who will adopt the technology first.
