Professor John Beacom has recently been recognized for his work with the award-winning SciAccess program.

While the laws of science are universal, access to science is not, and it should be.  The SciAccess program, started at Ohio State in 2018, is dedicated to improving disability accessibility in STEM fields.  The core team is run by former Ohio State undergraduates Anna Voelker (2018 Ohio State President’s Prize, 2023 Ohio State Alumni Association Diversity Champion Award) and Caitlin O’Brien (2023 Ohio State President’s Buckeye Accelerator Award) and Physics and Astronomy faculty member John Beacom.

Beacom was just named a 2024 Ohio State Community Engaged Scholar from the Office of Outreach and Engagement. The Community Engaged Scholar Award recognizes faculty members who have demonstrated co-created engaged scholarship that has positively impacted communities. Community Engaged Scholars have made significant contributions to Ohio State's culture of engagement, further establishing, and strengthening the institution's commitment to communities.

In addition, SciAccess was named a 2024 Program of Excellence in Engaged Scholarship. This certification process seeks to identify and certify projects annually that demonstrate excellence in community-engaged scholarship and meet the criteria of high-impact engaged scholarship.

Congratulations to Professor Beacom and SciAccess!

The next SciAccess international conference will be held in May 2024 and is free and open to all.  You are encouraged to register!
