Abstract

Classical shadows provide a noise-resilient and sample-efficient method for learning properties of quantum systems based on randomized measurements from a unitary ensemble. A fundamental question in this area is identifying the minimal assumptions required of a unitary ensemble to guarantee efficient learning. In this talk, I will introduce one possible candidate, the Pauli-invariant unitary ensembles—those invariant under multiplication by Pauli operators. I will talk about the explicit formulas for the reconstruction map, and rigorous sample complexity bound for this broad class of ensembles. In addition,  I will demonstrate how this framework extends to both states and channels in noisy environments, making it highly suitable for implementation on near-term quantum devices.
