Two Physics professors named 2017 American Physical Society Fellows
Congratulations to Chun Ning (Jeanie) Lau and Jonathan Pelz for being named 2017 Fellows of the American Physical Society!
The criterion for election is exceptional contributions to the physics enterprise, e.g., outstanding physics research, important applications of physics, leadership in or service to physics, or significant contributions to physics education. It is a distinct honor signifying recognition by one's professional peers.
Chun Ning (Jeanie) Lau is a professor in our condensed matter experiment group. Her citation was for: pionerring advances in the study of graphene and 2 D materials, especially in the areas of quantum transport, thermal properties, and the investigation of novel phases. She was nominated by the Division of Materials Physics
Jon Pelz is a professor in our condensed matter experiment group and is the Vice Chair for Graduate Studies and Research. His citation was for: national leadership in improving graduate education including developing and promoting bridge program components that mentor and support talented students toward doctoral physics degrees who might not otherwise gain acceptance into traditional programs.
