Physics Department Recognizes 2021 Undergraduate Award Winners

The Department of Physics Undergraduate Studies Committee has chosen this year's undergraduate award winners. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, we are unable to recognize this year's award recipients during the annual undergraduate awards ceremony but we are proud of this year's recipients and wish everyone continued success in physics. 

Freshman Award
This award, provided by the Hazel Brown scholarship fund, was established to recognize and encourage high academic achievement by physics and engineering physics majors.  In addition to the academic recognition, the Department of Physics is pleased to provide students with a $50.00 scholarship which can be used to cover educational expenses such as books and other supplies.

Smith Sophomore Award
This award, provided by the Alva Smith scholarship fund, was established to recognize and encourage high academic achievement by sophomore physics and engineering physics majors. In addition to the academic recognition, the Department of Physics is pleased to provide students with a $250.00 scholarship for the following academic year.

This award, provided by the Alpheus W. and Adah B. Smith scholarship fund and the Jack C. and Charlotte D. Smith scholarship fund, was established to recognize and encourage high academic achievement by junior physics and engineering physics majors. In addition to the academic recognition, the Department of Physics is pleased to provide students with a $500.00 scholarship for the following academic year.

Smith Senior Award

This award, provided by the Alpheus W. and Adah B. Smith scholarship fund and the Harold McMaster scholarship fund, was established to recognize and encourage high academic achievement by senior physics and engineering physics majors. In addition to the academic recognition, the Department of Physics is pleased to provide students with a $750.00 end of the year award.

Bunny and Thomas Clark Scholarship
This scholarship, endowed by faculty emeritus Bunny Clark, supports diversity by providing a scholarship to undergraduate students within the Department of Physics who show strong service to the department. Recipients receive a $1,000 scholarship for the following academic year.

James Smith Student Support Scholarship
The James L. Smith Student Support Scholarship was established in 2016 and is targeted toward physics and engineering physics majors who are working to cover college-related expenses.  The goal of this scholarship is to make it possible for students to work fewer hours so they can dedicate more time to school work and research.
