2013 Physics Picnic a great success

Another Physics Picnic has come and gone. Great thanks to Kent Ludwig and his crew for making sure everything was set up, torn down and that there was real food there!! Scheduling on "Reading Day" allowed all of the graduate and undergraduate students to attend and from the look of the long lines, they did. Food was prepared by Weinland's Gourmet Market since using our grills is impossible in a construction zone. The weather did cooperate and a beautiful sunny day allowed some to find a place to perch outdoors. Annual graduate teaching awards were postponed until an early autumn event to allow for evaluation of all TAs. John Whitcomb and his wife Dorothy were on hand to present the Distinguished Staff Awards which are named in his honor. Dr. Norman Gearhart, Jr. and his wife, the Rev. Carolyn Piper were recognized for achieving over $25,000 in donations to the Dept. of Physics. Mrs. Esther Heer, widow of former faculty member Clifford Heer, also attended and the recipients of the Heer Scholarship were announced. In addition, GWIP announced the winners of the raffle in support of furnishings for the new Wellness Room. Please see the following for awards presented at the picnic.
The Physics Graduate Student Council made the following awards:
Clifford Heer Scholarships of $1500: Richelle Teeling-Smith and Morgan Bernier
