I will explain the general concepts of resurgence theory which developed roughly at the same time in mathematics (Ecalle) and in physics (Polyakov, 't Hooft). I will then describe as a special but very important example: how resurgence will be used to define and calculate path integrals, based on a fundamental intuition of Ed Witten.
