Abstract: In this lecture, I will describe our effort to understand how the mechanical responses of single molecules contribute to important cell fate decision, first in the cellular nucleus, where DNA mechanics control chromatin organization and gene expression, and second in the plasma membrane, where mechanosensitive receptors determine cell adhesion, migration and proliferation.
