Friday, April 19th was the Spring 2024 Undergraduate Award Ceremony. After a reception catered by Steven's Catering, families and undergraduate students from each year gathered in the Smith Seminar Room to recognize and celebrate this year's awardees.

The Physics Senior Awards are funded by the Alpheus W. and Adah B. Smith Endowment Fund in Physics which was established on February 7, 1997, by the Board of Trustees in memory of the Smiths. This fund promotes and recognizes high standards in scholarship among undergraduate physics and engineering physics majors.

Other Student Achievements 

Congratulations to Michael Kuban and Anya Phillips for winning a 2024 National Science Foundation Graduate Research Fellowship! The NSF Graduate Research Fellowship Program (GRFP) recognizes and supports outstanding graduate students in NSF-supported science, technology, engineering, and mathematics disciplines who are pursuing research-based master’s and doctoral degrees at accredited United States institutions. 

Congratulations to incoming Physics major Benjamin Grimes for winning the 2024 Physics Valentino scholarship which helps fund tuition and other educational costs. This scholarship is given to only one incoming physics major per year. 

Other Scholarship Acknowledgements In addition to scholarships designated to recognize and encourage high academic achievement, we are thankful to our donors who provide scholarships for students with financial need. OSU Physics alumnus Dr. James Smith is one such donor who has provided over $290,000 in scholarship aid to 40 students since its inception in 2016. We are able to award an additional $27,000 for the next academic year.
