Prof. C. Jayaprakash receives 2020 Alumni Award for Distinguished Teaching

Prof. Jayaprakash receiving teaching award

Professor Ciriyam Jayaprakash has been awarded one of ten 2020 OSU Distinguished Teaching Awards. He was surprised in his classroom today by representatives from the Office of Academic Affairs, the Alumni Association, and the department.

The Alumni Award for Distinguished Teaching annually recognizes a maximum of ten faculty members for their teaching excellence. Students, faculty, and alumni may nominate faculty; and a committee of students, previous recipients, and alumni choose the recipients.

Dr. Jayaprakash will be recognized with a $5,000 honorarium made possible by gifts from The Ohio State University Alumni Association, University Advancement, and the Office of Academic Affairs. In addition, the Office of Academic Affairs will award an increase of $1,200 to his base salary. Dr. Jayaprakash will also be inducted into the Academy of Teaching.

A former student of Jay's wrote, "Professor Jayaprakash is by a large margin the best educator I have had in my five semesters at OSU... what really sets him apart as an educator was how he went beyond the subject material. Professor Jay really strove to not just teach us the course subject matter, but to make us better physicists, problem solvers, and more well-rounded thinkers".

Congratulations, Jay!
