Department of Physics Students and Faculty Attend SACNAS and NSBP/NSHP
This fall has been a busy time in the Department of Physics, with many of our undergraduate and graduate students, as well as faculty, attending various conferences.
Most recently, some of our students and faculty attended the SACNAS (Society for Advancement of Chicanos and Native Americans in Science) and NSBP/NSHP (National Society of Black Physicists/National Society of Hispanic Physicists) Conferences.
This year's SACNAS NDiSTEM Conference took place in Phoenix, Arizona from October 31st to November 2nd. Attendees could explore the graduate school and career booths, as well as attend poster sessions and various presentations.
"SACNAS is an inclusive organization dedicated to fostering the success of Chicanos/Hispanics and Native Americans, from college students to professionals, in attaining advanced degrees, careers, and positions of leadership in STEM." (SACNAS website)
This year's joint NSBP/NSHP Conference took place in Houston, Texas from November 13th- November 17th. The theme was "Merging Nuclei – Creating Stronger Forces," and is the first time these groups have met in a combined conference in more than 10 years.
"The mission of the National Society of Black Physicists is to promote the professional well-being of African American physicists and physics students within the international scientific community and within society at large." (NSBP website)
We are happy to have been able to send so many students to each of these events, and look forward to supporting even more students in the future!
