Condensed Matter Theory Special Seminars: Ruihua Fan & Pengfei Zhang
The Ho Group will host two special guests: Dr. Ruihua Fan, Physics Department, Peking University and Dr. Pengfei Zhang, Institute for Advance Study, Tsinghua University. Please see below for their seminar dates, times, locations, titles and abstracts. We hope to see you there! =================================Time: Thursday : April 6, 11:30am-12:30pm. Location : PRB, Room 1080 Speaker: Ruihua Fan, Physics Department, Peking University Title: A brief introduction to the out-of-time-order correlation Abstract: Recently, the out-of-time-order correlation(OTOC) is identified as a new diagnosis of quantum chaos and information scrambling. And it has drawn a lot of attention in both the gravity physics, the condensed matter physics and quantum information. In this talk, I will give a brief introduction to this quantity: historically when and how it emerged in physics study; why it diagnoses butterfly effect and information scrambling; how does the chaos bound pop out. It is also related to some other concepts such as second Renyi entropy in quench dynamics. And some concrete examples will also be given as illustrations. =================================== Time: Friday, April 7, 12:00pm-1:00pm. Location : PRB, Room 1080 Speaker: Pengfei Zhang, Institute for Advance Study, Tsinghua University Title: Sachdev-Ye-Kitaev model and its generalization with tunable Lyapunov exponent Abstract: In this talk I will first give an introduction to the SYK model which is a solvable model in large N limit. I will mainly focus on the four point function and its effective action. After this I'd like to talk about our recent work in which we couple a small SYK model to a larger SYK bath. This leads to a model with tunable Lyapunov exponent. We also generalize it to higher dimension where we can study the butterfly effect and related inequality derived by using Holographic duality.
