Prof. Ulrich Heinz, University Distinguished Professor and Professor of Physics, has recently been notified that he has been awarded the 2018 Humboldt Research Prize by the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation. Per the foundation website, "This award is granted in recognition of a researcher's entire achievements to date to academics whose fundamental discoveries, new theories, or insights have had a significant impact on their own discipline and who are expected to continue producing cutting-edge achievements in the future".  Award winners are invited to take prolonged periods of research in collaboration with colleagues in Germany, thus promoting scientific cooperation between research institutions in both Germany and the United States.
