Graduate Student Teaching and Poster Awards

Donuts and Cider were on the menu on Monday morning when the Graduate Teaching Assistant Awards were announced.  In an attempt to catch up from changes in the way we gather teaching evaluations from our students, awards for 2012-13 and 2013-14 were awarded.

The Hazel Brown Outstanding Teaching Assistant Award winners will receive $550 scholarships added to their accounts.

The Awards for 2013 were based on teaching over the prior ~two academic years with the exclusion of any 2012 winners.  The winners are:

Dietrich Kiesewetter
Samuel Stafford
Michael Page
Benjamin Tannenwald
Shane White

The 2014 Awards were based on teaching over the past ~two years (2012-13 and 2013-14) with the exclusion of 2013 winners.  The winners are:

Nathaniel Amos
Jack Brangham
Joseph Fritchman
Andrew Kubera
Hanna Lafranconi
Stephanie Lauback
Igor Pinchuk

Additionally Stephanie Lauback will be nominated for a 2015 AAPT Outstanding GTA award having been chosen from all 2nd year TAs (2013-14) with strong records.

The William R. Riley Excellence in Teaching Physics Award was also presented.  This award is made possible by the generosity of Dr. Norman Gearhart (PhD '73) and his late wife, The Reverend Carolyn Piper. The 2013 awardee, William Ruane, was named during the spring 2014 picnic.  The 2014 awardee is Daniel White (a former winner of the Hazel Brown Award).  This award provides a $1000 scholarship to be added to the recipients account.

Winners of the PGSC Poster Competition (funded by the Heer and DeMartini scholarship funds) were also recognized - Winners received $1500 scholarships.

The Dr. Clifford Heer Graduate Student Scholarship Awardees were Patrick Poole and Kyle Kafka.

The Dr. David C. DeMartini Endowed Fund in Physics Scholarship was awarded to Shirley Li

Professor Richard Furnstahl was awarded the Outstanding Graduate (core course) Teaching Award.
