Professor Andrew Heckler and his team win 2015 Office of Distance Education and eLearning Grant
Associate Professor of Physics, Andrew Heckler, along with a team of graduate students and staff in both Computer Science and Engineering and Physics have been awarded a 2015 Departmental Impact Grant by the Office of Distance Education and eLearning. They are developing a program entitled "Essentials Skills Practice for Introductory Physics Students."
There is clear evidence that many students struggle with basic skills that are essential to success in introductory physics courses. Based on physics learning research and cognitive science principles, this project employs an online application aimed at providing students with carefully designed practice sessions in order to improve their skills. A pilot version is currently running for one course, and this project will make needed improvements and additions in order to roll this out to 4 courses (over 6000 students/year) for permanent adoption by the department.
Congratulations to Prof. Heckler and his team!
